Haven House Reviews

Excellent would go again and recommend. But one or two things Neend attention ,tv in conservatory not working, ceiling trim hanging off and skirting board missing . But having said that it has been one of the best holiday home we have stayed in. Nice to see that there was smart tv in wasn't expecting that after reading the reviews
Catherine
Lovely big house for our large family holiday plus two whippets. Plenty of space so we weren't on top of each other. Town is a 10 minute walk along Church Street past the Marina I love that walk. Some of the window catches don't open which could do with sorting but other than that, it's a fantastic place to stay.
Comfortable and well located.
Just spent the New Year in this AMAZING Property, six adults! Two well behaved dogs and one very mobile 15 month old! The house was absolutely spotless Plenty of cutlery crockery etc there was everything we needed. Beds were all comfy, bathrooms etc were ideally located and spotless. The heating was unbelievable, it was a very cold week!! The washer and drier was a bonus with the little mans clothes. This is probably the BEST Sykes cottages booking weve had!! And we ve had quite a few! A Brilliant way to see in the New Year! Will definitely be back. Thank you
Great house, bigger than the pictures do justice. Everything you need, location perfect. Thanks.
Catherine
We loved the house and just had a few minor issues, one of the windows was unlocked and the handle would not move so we could shut it properly,we thought this could be dangerous as we had young children with us ,also the Internet went off towards the end of the week and never came back on again,we left a note in the house so hopefully these issues have been solved, otherwise we had a lovely stay.
Andrea
Really lovely house that more than met the needs of our extended family. Great shared space, lovely bedrooms, great bathroom and shower room facilities. Really useful parking spaces, well located , able to walk into town easily with 2 toddlers.
Timothy
We had a good stay at the property. Still no facility for recycling. You have to vist the Whitby Council's recycling facility just before you arrive at Sainsbury's Supermarket. There is a road on the left and the facility is in an Industrial Estate. When we were there it was closed on a Wednesday.
Elizabeth
A lovely house with good facilities. It was good to have decent sized towels provided for once. The kitchen was also well equipped. The house was in a good location and had an area where we could walk our dog close by.
Great property, good location. Very comfortable. We had a lovely week.Would highly recommend.
Timothy
A quiet location with parking, no facilities for recycling
Disappointed with the choice of tv channels there appeared to be no catch up tv available. Unsightly light bulbs hanging from ceiling in kitchen. Corner piece of skirting board lying loose on floor by sink in kitchen. No broom available to sweep through, only broom head no handle! Disappointed at times for arrival and departure, especially the 9am for departure which means a very early start if you expect the house to be clean and tidy. We decided to leave a day early in order that we could mop throughout in order to leave premises to our standards.
Lorraine
The location of Haven House was excellent, a lovely 10 minute walk to the shopping area of Whitby and even closer to the nearest pub. It was great to have off street private parking for 2 cars unusual in Whitby. The house was lovely and warm looked like the heating system had recently been updated and fairly well equipped. There were a couple of small maintenance issues which we passed on to the owner by text number in info left in property and we received a very quick response. A great place to stay for our extended family over New Year.
Robert
On entering the premises we were greeted with an awful foisty smell which was not a good start it turned out to be the mop bucket, the ceiling in the bottom bathroom could do with repainting as it was peeling off,the ceiling lights in the kitchen were hanging down not a good sight, toilet seat in middle bathroom very insecuredangerous, when setting heating to make us comfortable at night it came cold the owner kept on turning it down lack of information regarding the accommadation and no visitor book to fill in,these are only little points which should be noted by the cleaners.
We had a great holiday and enjoyed staying at Haven House. The location was good being able to walk into Whitby Town in 10 mins. We were able to go crabbing just 100 yards from the house and Sainsburys is only 1 mile away. Parking was adequate for our two cars an estate and 4x4, just had to park them very close to each other to avoid overhanging the pavement. There were 4 adults and 4 kids so for us it would be better if the double bedroom on the top floor had twin beds instead assuming they would squeeze in. We couldn't lock the backconservatory door with a key but could lock it from inside. This wasn't a problem as you could go out through the front door and lock it anyway. We are pleased we booked Haven House and would visit again. Being critical here but these are the things which I think could be improved Morenew crockery. There were a few all chipped and past their best. Replace TV in lounge. We didn't use the TV much but a more modern Smart TV might be useful for someone else staying with kids when the weather is bad. New dining room chairs. There were 6 chairs and another 2 older chairs in the lounge but some of the material is coking of the seat. I think all of these could do with being replaced. More coat hangers in the wardrobes. There are some big wardrobes but only a handful of hangers. Clothes line pegs. There was a close line but no pegs to be seen anywhere. A kettle in the downstairs utility would be a welcome addition. Descale the shower heads.
Lovely house for our family, 3 generations of us. ... Fully equiped kitchen, plenty of space.. The only negative thing is the open plan stairs on the first floor landing, going both up and down, Stairgates would've been useful.. to keep toddlers safe. Travel cot and highchair where supplied. My grandchildren loved the little park. About 10min walk into the town centre, and a lovely chippy 5 mins away.. Lovely visit..
Great location, well appointed but we had to purchase some items to cook with and there was a lack of coat hangers. Some furniture was well used and needs updating but having said that, the house was in great condition and having stayed at a number of similar properties on the estate, it compares very favourably. Having two car spaces and plenty of space is a great plus in Whitby and we would certainly consider staying there again.
Vanessa
Haven House was great . Lovely clean house that has everything you need.
Excellent property, ideally located. Good facilities. Property clean and welcoming. Owner very responsive to a small issue we found with a toilet flush. Would definitely book again.
Valerie
The location of the house was great, 10 mins walk into the town centre. The house was warm, plenty of hot water, the house itself was a little disappointing, we booked for 8 but only 5 could eventually go, I am glad there wasn't 8 as it would have been a tight squeeze, especially the kitchen and downstairs bedroom. The property was not clean upon arrival, the large oven grill pans and shelf were badly soiled with burnt food, we did not use it as we found it to be unhealthy. The dishwasher smelt mouldy and when we washed our dishes they didn't clean properly, the filter was very dirty. The cafetier hadnt been cleaned for weeks it was badly stained and kept falling apart when used, there were 2 glasses that we found in the cupboard with cracks, the whole place was very dusty, the blinds, skirting boards, wall sockets, the bathrooms smelt very heavily of bleach which was very unpleasant and made me feel a little chesty after a couple of days as I am an asthmatic, the ceiling in the downstairs shower is peeling off exposing plaster. The toilet seat in the 1st floor bathroom was loose and needed attention. The Wifi code was different in the file and the notice in the lounge, we did put the correct one in the file when we worked it out. This property could be high quality as the owner states it is if it had some TLC and was cleaned to a high standard by the team of cleaners who have from 9am to 4.30pm to do the work. With it being a special weekend in Whitby the price of the property remained high I would definitely pay this price again if the property was in better condition.
Rachael
We really enjoyed our stay at haven House. There I not really enough room on the drive for two cars but plenty of parking on the same road so not a problem. Great location and plenty of room for a family get together. The carpets are ready to be replaced but it did not spoil our holiday.
Very basic, no frills but did the job clean but needs a bit of maintainance.
The big advantage of this property is that it is in easy walking distance of Whitby town . It also has beds for 8 people , 3 bathrooms and take pets . However we would in no way describe it as outstanding . For most of the week there were 4 adults 2 children and 2 cars and this was comfortable. When friends joined us for the first weekend they felt their downstairs bedroom was dank , it was a tight squeeze to sit 8 at the kitchen table and in the lounge and it was very hit and miss if there was visitor parking available this was described to us as guest parking but we weren't told it was a few spaces for the whole housing estate Perhaps our biggest concerns were cleaning especially when over 7 hours were allocated as we found a mouldy frying pan , a crisp behind a sofa cushion and socks in the washing machine . The stair carpet is threadbare in places . These things in themselves did not stop us enjoying our week but do make me feel that to describe the property as outstanding over states it .
Graham
The location was ideal for walking into Whitby centre. The house comfortably gave plenty of room for 6 adults 2 children and our dogs. The playground at the back was an added bonus for the children.
Alexander
Lovely, very clean family house. Well equipped, good quality linen & towels & very comfortable beds. Excellent for multi generational holiday. Safe play park outside back gate, separate seating areas & good sized family kitchen. Easy 10 min walk into town & 5 mins walk onto bridge for bus to Scarborough & Robin Hoods Bay. Only tiny complaint was that we could not find any recycling bins but as we had cars & Sainsburys only 2 mins away was not a real problem. Will definitely rebook this house if returning to Whitby, had a wonderful stay.
Brenda
Lovely house in a great location, will definitely book again, and will recommend it to family and friends
Sharon
We know this area well, having stayed 'next door' the previous year, and we had another brilliant week in Whitby. Haven House is convenienty located to walk into town, and there is just! parking for two cars. Having read some of the feedback on cleanliness and having an extravulnerable member of the family with us we were a little concerned before arrival however, we found nothing to worry about. We did bring our own wipes and just for peace of mind went over key 'touch' areas, but we had no concerns about the cleanliness of the house. There were five adults in our party, but we had plenty of room to spread out and do our own thing. The kitchen was well provisioned, and we appreciated the large oven and hob which enabled us to cook meals for everyone at once. We would happily return another year.
Steven
Great location and house offers fairly good facilities With the extra shower unit on the ground floor being very helpful when 8 people are staying. However I was abit apprehensive about the cleanliness after reading one of the comments so contacted Sykes for further update which did ease my fears. The house on the whole was very tidy and nothing to complain about really But would have expected it to be pristine given the current situation wasnt sure any disinfectant had been used at all as you couldnt smell anything although wipes were left we wiped down ourselves also the outside area could do with a massive clean up and please cleaners pull the beds out!!!!
Rachel
The house itself is in a good location and has plenty of space and car parking. Unfortunately the house was absolutely filthy when we arrived and wasnt even at pre covid cleanliness standards. We spent the first few hours of our trip cleaning and then again the next morning. I have never stayedarrived in somewhere as filthy as this. Even the high traffic areas such as handrails made cloths brown when we cleaned them which is very worrying with the current climate. I rang Sykes first thing Saturday morning to let them know rather than waiting until the end of our stay and their service was brilliant in taking this on and letting us get on with our holiday. I have also seen that the mention of the ensuite room taped up plug was mentioned on here October 2019, this along with other things mentioned on here and in the guest book still have not been fixed. I would book through Sykes again but would not recommend this cottage to anyone.
The property was as described with ample room for my family in a great location within walking distance to the beach and also a close drive to the supermarkets.
We had so many issues. Things worn out and broken Very poor cleaning especially with COVID around
The house is in great location and met our requirements. There was a couple of small things that we noticed. On arrival there was nothing in the house to greet us I thought even a pint of milk a few tea bags and even a pack of biscuits. At least we could have got a cup of tea on our arrival. No bin bags no washing up liquid to wash dishes very little toilet roll !!. We rented a Smaller house in the same area a year ago and all of the mentioned above was supplied. I also think the house could do with a freshen up as its showing signs of wear and tear. All in all the house is great with a few extra tweaks here and there it would make it even better.
Patricia
This is a lovely house, containing everything you could wish for.
Beautiful house but could do with agood clean
Joanne
Excellent property, lots of room for a big family. Well equipped, great location. Parking included. Would definetly recommend
I needed to contact sykes on arrival and email was answered within 10 minutes, excellent customer support. As a side note there are so minor maintenance issues requires attention, these were noticeable on arrival and must have not been reported by previous occupiers. 1. Ceiling bulb off in kitchen 2. Ceiling bulb off in ensuite top floor bedroom 3. Extension lead side of bed not working in ground floor bedroom 4. Wall socket in main bedroom top floor is taped up and requires replacing thanks again regards Gary Wilson
The house was in a much better location than expected very close to Whitby centre. The river ran almost alongside the property and was a lovely walk. The property was bigger than expected too and even though it was over 3 floors it wasn't a problem to the 2 people in our group whose mobility isn't too good. I would book this property again with no hesitation.
The house was excellent and in a great location. Very clean and good facilities. Really enjoyed our stay in Whitby!
We had a great family break in Haven House. It was clean, comfortable, spacious and cosey. The location is good being just ten minutes walk into the centre of Whitby. There's green space close by to walk the dogs. A pub is only a five minute walk away and the kids loved the little playground which is overlooked by the house.
