Westonby Lodge Reviews

We absolutely loved it ! ! its a stunning house and location.. perfect few days to celebrate my husbands 60th Birthday with our family .. we will definitely be back !
Alison
The garden is not secure and isnt suitable for dogs, gaps in the hedges and dogs to be kept on a lead so they cant get into fields. Dogs to be kept off the furniture not sure how this can be managed overnight we covered the sofas with our throws. Stair gate provided to keep them downstairs. Didnt find any off lead walks nearby, went to the coast. Entrance hall quite narrow Only 2 dining room chairs, plus benches which arent very comfortable No light in the bathroom fan very noisy. Excellent views, warm house. Kitchen well equipped and the oven was very good. Remote location chosen to avoid fireworks, only heard a couple in the far distance but the dog was bothered by bird scarers.
Andrew
Very comfortable lodge in an amazing location, with fabulous views. Felt very secluded, yet was easily accessible and within easy reach of so many interesting and beautiful places. Would definitely book again.
Lovely lodge stunning view and wildlife to be seen. Very remote so be aware not near any shop and nearest town 15 minute drive. Lovely complementary coffee tea milk and biscuits. Advertises enclosed garden this is not really enclosed small children could climb into neighbouring fields and dogs have to be kept on a lead at all times. The radiator cover is large which means when you unlock front door you have to pull your dog back wards to open the door and get out.not enough baking trays to make dinner so bring your own only a grill and one small baking tray with a flan tin to be used. Room spacious good base to explore this part of the world.

This was our first visit to Westonby Lodge and we were not disappointed! It is a spacious property that comfortably accommodated nine of us. It was well presented and immaculately clean. The beds were comfortable with quality bedding that ensured a comfortable night's sleep. We had everything we needed including a cot, high chair and more importantly, a stair gate for our very inquisitive toddler, allowing us peace of mind. The views from the garden are spectacular and it is so peaceful and tranquil. The children loved playing in the garden and we all enjoyed eating alfresco. There is plenty to do in the area and lots of beaches a short drive away. The owners checked all our needs and requirements were met prior to our arrival which was very thoughtful. We were greeted with complimentary tea, coffee and cookies on arrival which was very much appreciated. We all had a very happy and enjoyable stay at Westonby Lodge and would definitely recommend it. We will certainly be returning!
Overall a very good experience. Westonby Lodge is welcoming, clean and comfortable. The little touches of tea, coffee, milk, biscuits were appreciated as were some of the practical supplies provided such as cleaning products and soaps. We enjoyed the quality and comfort of the furnishings. The whole property was bright, airy and well decorated. Some small points to perhaps consider repair to door from hallway to lounge loose hinge, toilet seats do not stay up and the shower in the upstairs bathroom is far too low. The grass was due a cut. On the listing it did not mention that dogs are to be kept on a lead. These are some minor observations for consideration to improve, and in no way would they prevent us returning to Westonby Lodge. We really enjoyed our holiday. North Yorkshire is beautiful and the peace and tranquility of the lodge's location only added to this. It is perfectly situated for a relaxing holiday yet close to conveniences and tourist attractions. Thank you.
The location is fantastic, definitely a home from home. Some of the family walked to the local village pub, 40 minutes, Egton we were blessed with fantastic weather most of the week. This is a cosy home for all weathers and all generations, safe garden to sit out , kids would be safe to play. We saw several deer, an owl, hares, all from the garden. Kitchen is fully equipped, beds are comfortable. One slight issue, the shower over the bath in the upstairs bathroom is definitely not designed to be used by tall people. This is a holiday home that we definitely think about coming back to it was brilliant.
Westonby lodge was amazing. The veiws from the windows were fantastic too. Everything you could possibly want was there. Every room was immaculate, and the furniture was beautiful. There is nothing it could have improved on. The owers left some tea coffee and milk plus some delicious Whitby biscuits too. Which was such a treat. It was so peaceful, with lots of wild life. We saw deer, owls pheasants and rabbits. There are dog walks right from the door. It is close to Whitby, Runswick bay, Dalby forest, plus many other places to visit. We loved our week and so did our dogs. I would highly recommend it. We will hopefully going back
Probably the best holiday house we have ever stayed in! Clean, comfortable beds, secluded, spacious, well equipped, fabulous views. Fantastic!
Lovely property, comfortable location, near to moors, Whitby, Saltburn and many pretty villages, very peaceful, everything we needed on site. Owners recommended the park and ride and this we used on several occasions very convenient and easy to use. Loved the Cod and Chips in Whitby
Pamela
We had a great week, the accommodation was clean, warm & comfortable a home from home. We enjoyed the welcome pack & flowers. Whilst the house is in a secluded & peaceful location all amenities & places to visit are within easy reach. We would highly recommend & hope to stay here again.
Fantastic old stone house. No other cottages near by so no neighbours. Accessed via a private drive. Owner was very helpful. Very comfortable with beautiful views of surrounding fieldscountryside. Lovely log burner, enough logs provided for the first night but cheap enough to buy from a local place in nearby Lealholm. Flowerscoffeeteabiscuitsmilk was a lovely welcome gift. Night sky was perfect for star gazing. Highly recommended and we would love to return again.
Sharon
A beautiful house in a lovely setting we enjoyed Christmas here with our family & dog. Owners are most helpful and had time to a lot of trouble decorating the house which was very comfortable and homely. Only downside for us was the very small kitchen, particularly in relation to the house & the narrow entrance hall with our dog trying to dry her off but everything else was perfect We would recommend
The house was well equipped. Nicely isolated but still within a 10 min drive to shops etc. stunning house with stunning scenery. We will be back next year
Steven
Great location with beautiful views peaceful and private but only about a 15 minute drive to Whitby and the coast. Former hunting lodge with character, well equipped, warm, homely and spacious. We were able to watch deer and barn owl in the fields around the house. Hope to be back.
The property owners were extremely helpful and understanding and provided a showerstool on request. We thank them for that. This property has magnificent views from the bay window in one of the upstairs bedrooms. We saw and photographed both Curlew and Lapwing in the fields along with young blackbirds, rabbits and hares. If you are interested in nature, this is the place to be. You need binoculars to see the nearest habitation so you are completely on your own with the nature. There is an outside lawn area with seating, one of which enjoys the magnificent views. The upstairs shower is over the bath and has no handheld spray, just a fixed overhead one. The downstairs shower is a handheld spray which fixes to a slider to use overhead so it can be used both ways. It is in a three foot square cubicle about the size of an oldfashioned telephone box. There is plenty of room for parking outside in what was a farm yard but is not being used for that purpose anymore. There is a 13amp electricity socket that can be used to charge an electric bike or car by arrangement with the owner. The kitchen is well equipped. There is a dishwasher in the kitchen and a washing machine in an outhouse. There are plenty of sofas and chairs. There is a large dining table with a bench on each long side and a chair at each end. The WiFi is reliable but slow. It is good enough for iPlayer etc which is available on the smart TV.
Michelle
Had a wonderful weekend, lots of laughs. House was fabulous and hosts were lovely.
Carolyn
We had a wonderful holiday at this wonderful house. It has everything you need, well equipped kitchen, cosy beds and beautiful decor. It is also very handy for Whitby, prerry villaged and lovely beaches.
Fabulous house and setting. Appreciated the quality biscuits and warmth it was a really cold weekend. Sheets crisp and white and host very kind. Thx
This property didnt disappoint at all. It met all of our expectations and more. Beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. Amazing views from every window. If you are looking for somewhere secludedquiet then this is the place to be. There are some lovely places to eat within a couple of miles highly recommend The Witching Post at Egton and Arncliffe Arms in Glaisdale very friendly. Thank you to both Chris and Emma who were there when we needed help you have a wonderful property and we will definitely be staying again.
Richard
Fantastic property that was very clean and well maintained. Wood burner was a great asset for our stay towards the end of November but the central heating system was more than enough. The only gripe would be the washing machine was located in an out building not attached to the property.
The Lodge was spotless on arrival & when we left. We thought this time of year the heating should have been on constant our choice to turn off as was very chilly in the day as we stayed in due to the weather, the water upstairs for a bath was only ever Luke warm also down by the gate could do with some slabs it is very muddy on the shoes to open & close gate. But overall it is a lovely place to stay & what Gorgeous views from the lodge.
Catherine
The lodge has everything you need for a wonderful holiday. We really enjoyed our stay, The view from the lounge was amazing especially when youre lucky enough to see a barn owl sitting on the fence. The lodge was very comfortable and has everything you need for a very relaxing stay. We would definitely recommend it and come back to if we visited Yorkshire again.
Stephen
Very comfortable, brilliant views we all loved it.
Amanda
This cottage is beautiful. Exactly as advertised.it is immaculate ,very comfortable and well equipped in an idyllic, peaceful location . The owners were very welcoming and extremely helpful. We will definitely return for another lovely holiday at Westonby Lodge . I highly recommend this property .
Claire
This is our second stay here, we came last summer and loved it so much we just had to come back. Its a stunning setting and our boys love the outdoor space. Great location to explore Whitby 5 min drive to the Park & Ride, and we also enjoyed trips further afield to Runswick Bay, York 50 mins and the Go Ape at Daley Forest 35 mins. There is something so special about this property and I am sure we will be back again one day.
Susanna
We have had a fabulous week at this wonderful house. Very comfortable, spacious, clean and with everything we could possibly need. We used it as a base to explore the North York Moors National Park and including May Beck, Falling Foss tea garden, Rosedale Abbey, Dalby Forest, and visited Whitby Whitby Abbey and Robin Hoods Bay.
Beautiful setting, well equipped and spotlessly clean cottage and great vacation. Only minor comments and they are minor were a the poor broadband speed, not a great problem for us, and b the legacy of Covid restrictions which seem to prevent the availability of DVDs, gamesjigsaws and visitors book which is always useful to see what restaurants and attractions other guests have visited. I would have thought that those restrictions are now largely unnecessary.
Gareth
Lovely property in a secluded and private location but only 5 minutes from the pubs at Egton and Egton Bridge. Well equipped and maintained with a modern central heating system for cold days. I hope we will be able to stay there again sometime in the future.
A fabulous property in a stunning location. Exactly what we wanted, which was a feeling of isolation without being cut off from things! Lovely kitchen for making meals which we wanted to do. Very well equipped, great range oven & hob. Beautiful view from kitchen window! Lovely comfortable bedrooms and all have stunning views! Large lounge and dining area, very sociable space without feeling formal in any way. Great for a dog to share with you! Wood fire not needed in our stay but would be awesome in winter! Garden space is lovely. Only shame was we didn't quite get the temperature to fully appreciate it! Highly recommended, but to get the most from it you must want the beautiful isolation it provides, which is exactly why we never ventured too far from the lodge! Would go back in a heartbeat!
Elaine
We all had a great time . Fantastic location beautiful views . Plenty to do and see and plenty of super markets to stock up with food .Two things I would suggest to have at the Lodge fire guard and tumble dryer . We will return sometime next year. Regards Elaine
Clean, comfortable, warm and welcoming! Thank you so much for adequate heating. It was very very cold when we arrived and we appreciated a warm house. Spotless bedding, comfortable beds, glorious views! The owner was particularly kind and accommodating on the phone when the representative at Sykes was not.
A fabulous cottage as always, but 1 small niggle. The listing clearly states dog welcome and the photos APPEAR to show an enclosed garden, however this is not the case. The welcome email received a week before arrival stated that dogs must be on a lead at all times. When we arrived it was clear that the whole area was very open. This holiday was part of my recovery from a serious illness and I did not anticipate getting dressing at 6.30 am each morning to walk the dog down the drive on a lead. This should be made a bit clearer in the description as I would not have booked this particular cottage if I had this information in advance. That said we had a wonderful time even though the weather was not on our side.
We book many cottages in the UK via Sykes and I have to say this was our favourite. The location is stunning. The property was immaculately clean. The location was great for Whitby and Staithes as well as Dalby Forest. The owners could not have done more to help. We had snow and they helped us move our car. They checked on us during the bad weather and then they offered to post back the children cuddly toy we had left in the property. An absolute gem with owners who make the stay extra special. Thank you from Maddy and Oscar
Wonderful home we had a lovely stay great for our dog
Claire
Fantastic property. Comfortable for our family of five dog, wonderfully quiet and spotlessly clean. We had such a great week here and we will be booking again for next summer.
Lovely house in a beautiful setting. Very comfortable and well furnished. It was lovely to arrive to a welcoming hamper. Also very useful to have secure storage for bicycles!
We stay for a week & the house was very homely, clean, tidy & well decorated. The house was very isolated, private & safe for our dog, the views from every window was very beautiful & picturesque. We could not believe how lucky we was with the wildlife around the lodge, it was that good we bought binoculars & information books on wildlife. Our week went very fast, but we will return in the future and you was in the countryside with small villages to visit and also have great access to the coast.
Rosemary
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and wished it could have been longer. Have rebooked for April 23. The house is lovely, very well presented, like a show home. The quality of the beds and bedding was superb. I always take my own pillow but its really need not have done. We particularly loved the surrounding countryside, no immediate neighbours and working farms all around. My mother had her 88th birthday there and she, a real country girl, loved the old farm buildings. Well saw Hares, Owls and of course a couple of pheasants. The owner, Emma was extremely helpful and very pleasant. I had a puncture and she checked up with me to ensure I had it sorted. It is such a peaceful place, we really didnt want to leave and April cant come soon enough for me.
Fantastic house with lovely grounds. We stayed for a long weekend but would be ideal for a longer stay too. 15 minutes from Whitby, but its very isolated if thats what you like, would have to drive a short distance to the nearest shop, or pub. But theres no chance of being disturbed by any neighbours. Beautiful views from every window. Everything youd need for a stay is supplied. Would love to visit again.
