Calliope House, Newton Street

We loved our stay at Calliope house, really comfortable with good sized bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, lovely lounge the floor above and plenty of toilets too! Was perfect for our group of 7. There was also a high chair, cot & toys for very young ones. Communication beforehand was also good. The location was perfect being so central, and you get parking permits to park on the road outside which was great, however over Easter weekend it was impossible to park anywhere in Whitby, but really easy after the bank holiday was over! Would definitely stay here again on a future Whitby visit.

We had a lovely week at Calliope House, it felt like home as it was so comfortable and felt very safe. It is very spacious and because it is on 4 floors we had privacy and definitely lots of exercise up and down the stairs! The house is very well equipped, though the kitchen would benefit from some soft lighting around the dining table . The bedrooms were very cosy, and nice quality bedding made the beds feel very comfortable. We were particularly impressed with the showers, very good flow and loads of hot water, even in the top floor bathroom. Overall, a lovely house, thank you!

I just spent the weekend in Calliope House in Whitby with my family, celebrating a special birthday. The house is beautifully furnished throughout, equipped with everything you could possibly need. Its got a lot of stairs which might not suit everyone but wasnt an issue for us. The large room was perfect for us, and the other lounges were great if someone wanted a bit of peace and quiet, or watch to. We all loved it.

Really loved staying here. It felt like a home. Well equipped. Lots of space. Comfy beds and lots of places to sit and relax with the two lounges and the sofa in the dining room. The communication from the owner was excellent. The house is within short walking distance to the centre of Whitby. Thanks for letting us stay.

The extra front room was never used. The television in there would have been much better in the kitchen, especially at breakfast time. A handrail should be placed at the top of the stairs leading down to the kitchen. Otherwise a very pleasant property.

Calliope house is a beautiful, bright, well equipped and spacious home, perfectly located to explore Whitby and the surrounding area. The owners were helpful and we enjoyed a very relaxing stay.

A super place right in the centre of Whitby. Lovely old Georgian house full of light and space. Well stocked with everything one might need. We all loved it, especially little Rosie aged 2 who couldn't get enough of all the stairs! And Whitby itself was a treat. Thank you Kath Hewson

We loved our stay at Calliope House. The house itself is gorgeous, the location is ideal and only a short walk from the beach and all of the Whitby attractions. The facilities in the house were all so clean, and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and were already looking to book again.

Fantastic property in the heart of beautiful Whitby. This very spacious house has everything you could need. The beds are very comfortable and the location is perfect as its a short walk to the harbour. Well be back!

We had a great week here with our large family. The house was better than we expected, super spacious and we spent every evening sitting out in the lovely garden with its view of two churches. We were also really impressed with the thought that has gone into everything from the towels, bedding and kitchen items. There were masses of mugs, glasses, plates, cutlery etc which made a big difference. Plus lots of pots etc to prepare food. The owners responded quickly when we had a query as well. Overall we loved our stay and would definitely recommend it to larger family groups.

Brilliant location, very spacious and spotlessly clean. Very well equipped and so comfortable. Parking 2 SUVs was tight but once parked up we didnt need to use them again until we were packing to come home. Bus terminal was 5 mins walk away

We found the location to be perfect. Communication was great from booking, all the info provided. Everything you could think would be needed for our stay was provided within the accommodation. We all enjoyed our stay and would return again.

This property does NOT have three bathrooms, as in your listing, very, very disappointed! !

We had a fabulous break in this outstanding property. The facilities are exactly as listed on the property details. The house is beautifully and tastefully decorated, with every consideration given to the comfort of guests. It's situation in the heart of Whitby is amazing, giving the option to feel secluded in the lovely garden in August. We were a multigenerational party with additional needs and this house met all of our needs and more. We are very grateful to the owners and their thoughtfulness and care both pre, during and post stay. They really go the extra mile. We are already looking forward to our return.

We spent a week in Calliope House as a family with three children, traveling by public transport. Whitby is a nice and busy place, but the spacious and cosy house and pleasant garden provide a quiet recluse. We loved our stay here and did some beautiful hiking along the Cleveland Way and in de Moors.

Our party of 6 adults and 2 children enjoyed our stay at Calliope House very much. The beautiful, spacious house is very clean, well furnished and well maintained. Beds are very comfortable. The enclosed and private garden with table and chairs was a real bonus. Pannett Park, with a great children's play area, is just at the end of the street and the harbour front a 5 minute walk. Our whole party had a wonderful time and will definitely return

This is our second stay at the lovely Calliope House. The house has everything you need for a stressfree stay. It is very clean, comfortable & cosy with plenty of space for guests to socialise together or have their own space. The location is perfect to access everything Whitby has to offer. All the information you could need is provided & the owners also make it easy to contact them if you have any queries. Whilst on street parking is always a challenge in Whitby, the provision of parking permits & suggestions for parking locations make it as easy as it could possibly be. We look forward to coming back again.

We stayed at Calliope House for my husbands 50th birthday during half term and had a lovely few days with friends of ours and their son, and our daughter. Its a beautiful town house in a great location, within easy walking distance to everything Whitby has to offer. The bedrooms on the first floor, and the sitting room on the ground floor, were very comfortable and beautifully furnished. We chose the property in part because of the large kitchen were all into good food, and cooking and knew wed be eating in for the three nights we were there. Unfortunately our third and final night was marred through lack of appropriate pots for the induction hob. This wouldnt have been so much of a problem if I hadnt spent a fortune on lobster and crab from the local fishmongers for a special 50th birthday supper. There was a pan big enough to accommodate cooking pasta for six people, but unfortunately it, and the other smaller pan, didnt work on the induction hob so I was unable to cook the pasta and meal Id prepared. Wed been able to use the induction hob successfully with the frying pans provided but Im shocked the kitchen was stocked with appliances that couldnt be used on the hob. As this was our final night and we only realised the issue in the final throes of trying to prepare a birthday feast, it was pointless trying to contact the owners. Its a real shame as it ruined the meal. Think lobster and crab linguine without the linguine. Our only other feedback would be to provide door stoppers. We came with our small and well behaved dog, who likes company at all times. Unfortunately the sitting room and snug doors appear to be old, heavy fire doors, which would always close fully. This meant we couldnt leave the doors ajar, so inevitably the dog would bark if I was on my own and left the room for a few minutes. Its also a shame that the house is missing a guest book. It would have been lovely to read others recommendations of where to visit, recommendations for local activities, fish and chips etc. All this said, we would probably rebook but next time Id bring my own saucepan and door stopper!

Beautiful Calliope House exceeded our expectations. We settled in very quickly and there was masses of space for our family of five. Everything works, the kitchen is very well equipped, the beds are all very comfortable and the bathrooms are good quality. Parking was straightforward. The house is so welllocated in Whitby, we didnt need the car for our short stay. Would have loved to spend more time in the very pretty garden. Highly recommended.

This is a comfortable house full of character and is conveniently situated to explore Whitby. The lack of parking was a problem and even at the end of September it took some time to find parking spaces and they were some distance from the property. The house was well furnished and the kitchen provided everything we needed. The only item our party would have appreciated was a grab handle on the wall to assist the youngest and oldest of our party in and out of the large deep bath.

Fantastic house, great location. Get there early to source parking, good local guide map to this once at property.

We had a very comfortable stay at Calliope house. The facilities were great and the beds were very comfortable.It was placed in a good position to get into town and we sorted out the parking situation by parking near the park.

Lovely tastefully decorated and furnished house and very comfortable. We had a great stay and excellent value for money this time of year. Parking you can't help but having a big car didn't park outside but in Royal Crescent which is a bit of a walk uphill! But probably did me good. Very clean when we arrived and all very tastefully done. Will come back when I've got a mobility scooter for the hills of Whitby. Thank you we loved the house.

Beautiful and spacious property. Great location. Property is for 8 people, however not enough hot water for 8 showers. Would be better if there was a combi boiler.

We had such a lovely stay at Calliope house. Everything was perfect with lots of attention to detail and extra touches. We really loved the kitchendining area, it was so cosy especially when the snow was falling and the kitchen had everything you could think of, which is so often missing. Well definitely be booking again.
