The property is in good location for Whitby And the bedlinen was clean as was towels But needs a little repair and attention Most blinds are not working to pull up and down There wasnt enough cutlery and cups and glasses for all guests and low on cookingoven ware pots There was a mop unable to use as it was rusty and broken The bin inside was rusty and unhygienic Water from the upstairs bathroom was leaking thorough the downstairs bathroom ceiling Would suggest moving furniture when hoovering We found empty bottles used eyelashes and flaked paint around the carpet The bathrooms need a good deep clean
It needed a good clean behind the settee I had to buy a kettle as the one that was was a health and safety risk

We had no issues at all here. Clean and perfect for a 3 night girly catchup. Just a caution that the stairs are very steep and the hot water in the shower on the first floor was scalding. Would book again
When I was considering booking this property I was not aware of what was meant by a Jack and Jill twin room. So I phoned the Sykes office for clarification. They told me that this comprised two single rooms sharing a common bathroom. As two of our party were single, not known to each other, each in their seventies and each particular about their personal privacy I described the room to them in the manner it had been described to me and they both said that with mutual agreement they would be happy with the arrangement. When we arrived at 11A I found that the property consists of three double rooms and one twin. The Jack and Jill twin simply does not exist! So agentleman had to volunteer to sleep on a sofa as the only way we could organise things. This was obviously unsatisfactory as he had paid for a single bed in a separate room. Looking online today it appears that this discrepancy has been pointed out twice in the past, the first time a year ago, yet the website description still remains the same. Also worthy of mention is the fact that at the time of our visit the first floor shower would be positively dangerous to small children as the temperature control is virtually unworkable and the and the unit seems to default to scalding hot.
Rubbish left behind sofa and under sofas also in vanity drawers. Tablets left in drawers dirty marks on radiator and doors. Loose carpet on stairs dangerous as stairs very steep and the loose carpet was also on the bend Cobwebs clearly visible dusty window sills. Cracked glass panes Overall in need of a very good clean
Im writing this after having the conversation with the rest of our group. Firstly on the web site you state that the stairs are steep, which they are, but theyre actually quite dangerous!! Your site also states that there are two twin bed rooms, theres only one, which left two of our group a bit put out as they dont like sharing a bed. The top toilet had towels on the floor like it hadnt finished being cleaned. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms and kitchen were nice and clean. Obviously your property gets used quite a bit as it is looking tired, lots of scuff marks on the walls, the couches were very worn. Also there was no information booklet. Usually theres information about the facilities, wifi, and the surrounding area. On the whole we had a lovely time. As Ive said, these comments are from the group as a whole. Regards
Great property for large groups to explore Whitby. Note the property description states there are two twin rooms, but there is only one.
Really disappointed with the standard of furnishings and cleanliness of this property. We stayed here last year and it was lovely and clean. This year its shocking, vastly over charged. Property is desperately in need of cleaning, repairing and furniture needs replacing. Will not go again.

The house is ideally situated within walking distance of the centre but In a nice quiet area. The stairs in the house are very steep but not a problem as long as you dont forget anything. The house did not look like it had been cleaned properly recently, there were bits on the stairs carpets sweet wrappers under beds etc. However the bedding and towels were clean. We all had a fantastic weekend!
One of the stair handrails is coming away from wall. Whole property is in desperate need of a deep clean and painting. Broken panes of glass in window panes, one window is black with mould all over the small window headings. No instructions for cooker hob and the central heating. The stair carpet is threadbare and because treads are narrow, you can feel the carpet nailsgripper poking through it, caught my heels a couple of times on them. Tv remotes not working, this has already been pointed out in another review
There are many positives about this accommodation so here are just a couple of things to improve the rug in the kitchen does smell of wet dog, the many remotes need new batteries and the one remote that does work, doesn't have the up button working.
My daughter moved one of the single beds and it was very dusty underneath and a child's ring was found it definitely hadn't been thoroughly cleaned. The cooker extractor grid was very dirty and greasy and when I removed our bedding on the last day the mattress cover was stained. We were not allowed in until 5pm but called earlier to find out where it was situated. My husband takes water tablets and used the toilet at 11a as he was desperate. The cleaning hadn't been started well into the afternoon. Having then to leave at 9am is ridiculous when the cleaner wasn't coming until the afternoon.

The property has a great location and is clean. As previously said the stairs are very steep to the upper floors. Also although having 4 bedrooms there are only two bathrooms the 3rd on the top floor is a toilet and sink this is fine for a family but 4 couples would struggle. There is free parking opposite the house but at peak times parking can be a nightmare. On the first night we had a maintenance issue but this was fixed within the hour.
Catherine
House nice in a great location for exploring Whitby. The house itself is well equipped and spacious for 2 families.
The property was in a great location
Christopher
The house was perfect for our small break. Close to the town centre, great views of the dock. I will be booking this house again
This lovely town house was very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed as a family of 8 to cook, eat and play games. It is in a great location to walk into the town. And a great base for exploring further afield. We had a great holiday in this quirky modern home. Communication with Sarah the owner prior to our visit and during was great. Would highly recommend. We were not disappointed.
The house was well situated, just a short walk from the heart of the town, close to a fish and chip shop and a few pubs. The bin situation was a little tricky as the wheelie bins were full on arrival. The cottage was clean and tidy but there was a ripe smelling rug of wet dog in the kitchen that could do you be cleaned or chucked. Excellent bathrooms and plenty of space, the stairs are very narrow and steep. I managed to get a free parking space directly outside the front on church street.

It's a really great cottage. As good a location as you'll get it Whitby. Bit far out the centre but you really need that to work off the fish & chips. If you need a space to cram 9 people into it couldn't be better. Nice comfortable rooms for everyone and a lovely big living space as well. One thing we did notice is that the shower on the 1st floor leaks into the downstairs living space, might want to look at that. Great weekend, thanks.
The house is beautiful and they have left lots of thing to use in the kitchen that you wouldn't think to pack. Gorgeous bathrooms and the beds were very comfy. Loved our little visit. The location of the house is very good for access to the town and beach and restaurants. We were very lucky and managed to get two parking spaces that we could just leave the cars in while we were there.
Suzanne
We were a party of 7 the accommodation is in a good location and plenty of room for this many guest however, we were extremely disappointed to find that cupboard in the kitchen which houses the boiler was full of dust and dirt. I do have a photograph I can send you I have taken to show you what the cupboard was like. The stairs carpets could do with replacing. The main problem was that the windows in the house would not open which is a fire hazard there was only three windows in the full property that opened, one was in the second floor double bedroom, one in the first floor lounge and the attic bedroom skylight would open. I consider this to be a fire hazard because if something would have happened in the property we would not be able to escape by the windows this needs immediate attention the windows will not open because they are paint closed. I will be making my own enquiries to see if this is legal. The stairs in the property are extremely steep so I would advise anyone who struggles to get up normal stairs will certainly struggle to get up three flights of a really steep stairs so please be aware. I would not grade the property 4 stars, very disappointing for a 1020 for 3 nights !
The location was good and easy walking distance from Whitby town centre. we were a party of 8 adults of various ages and all had plenty of space in the property which also has two bath rooms and a top floor cloak room for convenience. there were ample towels for all, and the kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need. The property was clean and warm, which was welcoming in late December. We would like to also recommend the restaurant on the Endeavor replica ship, the Orlop, the food and service was very good and the atmosphere very comfortable and relaxing. We would recommend this property to both young families and adult family groups alike, but bear in mind the stairs were the main talking point LOL If you have trouble with mobility the stairs up to the upper floors could be a problem and this was pointed out prior to our booking. For us it was fine. All in all we had a very nice experience and would use again and also recommend to our friends and family.
I believe that you should make future customers aware that the steps are narrow and steep and have sharp bends. Could be useful for people with walking or climbing difficulties. As we found out ourselves. Also minor touches required in the decor.
Positives Great for Whitby center. Nicely modernized for bathrooms. Good first floor with additional sitting room. Good value and plenty of accomodation for young able bodied family Negatives Not good for elderly or anyone who struggles with very challenging stairs. Was difficult to tell from advertisement that ground floor did not have toilet, and the stairs in building were that challenging. Unfortunately roadworks in front of building. Boat yard can be noisy in front of building.
We had a great stay would like to say thanks for arranging a later check out. ...I do think 10am is too early for a weekend stay..was nice that Sarah contacted us personally to make sure things were ok
Everything in the listing was as described. Unfortunately, there were several issues that left us feeling disappointed. The worst was a bad smell coming from the toilet drain in the attic bathroom. The owner arranged for someone to come and try to fix this on the Tuesday of our stay, but the smell was still present for the rest of our visit. In the second floor bathroom the sink plug didnt close properly, so we couldnt run a sink of water for washing or shaving. In the first floor bathroom the shower tray was slow to drain away. On inspection there was a large amount of matted hair and muck in the drain it obviously hadnt been cleaned for a while. Elsewhere we would have liked more mugs to save having to wash them by hand for each meal. Also a couple more pans and a grill rack would have been useful, and a teapot! Finally, it would have been nice to have instructions for which bin to put out and when. Only by chance were we able to do the recycling on the correct day.
The house was just as good as it looked on the photos, excellent location for walking into town and well set up for large groups or families. It was very clean and I think my only suggestion to give it that extra special touch would be to maybe include a little welcome pack with some basics such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread etc and a few toiletries in the bathrooms but generally we had no complaints. The adverts were very clear and honest about the stairs and the higher you go the steeper they get. The stairwell was quite narrow so it was a little difficult getting luggage to the bedrooms but it kept us all fit. I contacted Sykes to enquire about a late check out, they were very professional and prompt in the way the call was handled and managed to get this agreed with the owner for us. A brilliant time was had by all and we would definitely recommend the house and Sykes.
Denise
First impressions not favourable when we couldn't open the key safe to gain entry. Had to wait outside until a passing photographer who worked for Sykes was able to open the safe. We were informed by yourselves that the cleaner had trouble that morning. The kitchen was not clean remains of a dog biscuit on the floor, dirty crockery and cutlery in the cupboards, crumbs and food left by the previous tenant in the cupboards. I did not expect to start cleaning floors cupboards and set the dishwasher off to clean all the dirty crockery and cutlery upon arrival. Upstairs in the first bedroom the light inside the wardrobe was just hanging by the wires and the screws left in the wood. During the holiday 2of the older children aged 8and 10 years became upset when they couldn't open the doors to the bedroom and bathroom. Towels had to be placed on the floor to prevent a repeat of these accidents. When reading the previous tenants notes in the feedback book the same incident had occurred. This proves that Sykes do not take any notice of the feedback or have the courtesy to answer the phone message my daughter left after her child was trapped in the bathroom.
Rebecca
This house is lovely. It is over 4 floors so a good climb to bed if your on the top floor, lovely views though when you do get there. You do have to duck a lot but the listing does say that. One guest was over 6ft so didnt even attempt the top room. The stairs are steep so anyone that struggles with steps I wouldnt suggest this house. My family loved it. The kitchen is lovely and has everything you need, plenty of plates, glasses, cutlery etc. Lovely fluffy towels on the beds ready for the very stylish bathrooms. Shower on 1st floor is amazing! Lovely bed linen, comfortable sofas Perfect location with a short walk into the town. We were lucky to visit during the regatta which was great. Also good crab fishing spot right outside the house which was great. We did crab fish at the Fleece as suggested by the owner.
