Laurel House Reviews

We had a wonderful weekend for my birthday celebration at laurel house. It is in a perfect position. Everything was provided, even a lovely welcome pack on arrival. It is very spacious, and ideal for families. All the family had fun with cozy nights around the log fire and playing games. I would highly recommend this property. Thank you.
Another wonderful stay at Laurel house our fourth time. We love it. Our group is four girlfriends and the house is perfect. A double room each and comfy mattresses and crispy sheets. The house is ever so warm even in December we had to turn many of the radiators off. The log burning stoves were an extra cosy luxury too. Kitchen brilliantly appointed and a large dining room and table for evening games. Beautiful view of sunrise over the abbey from the Laurel suite. A stones throw from west cliff, the beach and the town makes it a perfect location but also not a sound at night, the neighbourhood is really quiet. Lots of lovely cafes and bars nearby Two car spaces an added bonus Im sure well be returning in 2026
Angela
Great house for a large group . Two sitting rooms was fabulous one for the quieter one for the louder age groups . Would definitely recommend and use again .
Great location access to Whitby Town centre is just a short walk away. Everything you need in the house and the second lounge area on the first floor was great for the younger generation to disappear to. One negative was the rubbish and recycling, no recycling at all and the wheelie bin was full when we got there so no where to live the rubbish.
Fabulous location. We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was well equipped and very spacious. Parking is an added bonus in Whitby and we had no problems parking two large cars. It would have been nice to have a couple of dish washer tablets, bin liners for the kitchen bin in the welcome pack. Just a small suggestion that would benefit future guests.
We have been renting properties for our summer family holiday for 30 years and Laurel House is one of the best. This year we were a party of 9 with ages ranging from 9 weeks to 71 across 3 generations. The house is comfortable, spacious and extremely well equipped, perfect accommodation for our party. Would book again. Catherine the property manager was very helpful.
Kenneth
The spaciousness of this property was a real bonus for a party of seven as we were the three children being adult sized! Bedrooms are large and two are en suite though the doorless loo in one is an oddity with which not everybody would be comfortable. Probably best used as a single. Other rooms are likewise of generous size and two lounges enables people to spread out if they wish. Kitchen was well equipped. Videos, games and books are available if wanted. Close to the centre of Whitby, though be warned that Whitbys gradients can be tough on those not so young. Good beaches and swimming locally, plus numerous places to eat. There are super locations within easy driving distance Robin Hoods Bay probably the most popular. The propertys parking space looks large on the advertising picture. In practice you can just get two cars in with care, one inevitably blocking the other, though the street parking outside makes access difficult. So lots of positives, though they are reflected in the price.

The property is a fine building with some excellent rooms and furnishings with a good location for the town and off street parking very useful in Whitby! The property owners need to employ a handyman! Almost everything needs maintenance which it clearly doesn't get such as Creaking doors I WD40'd two of them many of which don't shut properly. Plumbing issues such as the bath on the first floor needs plunging and the hot tap is loose the shower on the same floor needs a new hose. The cloakroom basin on the ground floor leaks. The bags for putting used linen in were nowhere to be found. A broom would be useful. We had to cut back the rose bush in the drive! We bought new kitchen scissors and a clothes horse for drying beach clothes etc. So whilst the facilities are very good someone needs to spend 10am to 3pm on Saturday doing a bit more!
The house had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. Good location and we parked a large transit van and car on the drive. Whitby is a beautiful place for a holiday.
House was as described in the listing, and actually felt more spacious than expected. A good property for groups to spread out and not fall over each other. Location was ideal, close to the centre but on a quiet street Clean and tidy property
Joanne
This property was perfect for our visit to Whitby. The location was spot on and excellent to have two car parking spaces. The newly refurbed kitchen and dining rooms were fully stocked with everything for our catering needs. The space in the utility room came in handy and we can't fault the comfy beds! Both TV's had access to Disney, ITVX, BBC iPlayer etc, so there was plenty to watch and games and books also provided. In the welcome book there was a drawing to show the layout of the house, this could prove useful prior to arrival to help allocate bedrooms and consider putting some plug in hall lights as we had to use bedroom lights in the hall for the kids to find there way from the second floor to the first floor bedrooms as it was dark down those stairs in the middle of the night. Not a complaint, just some feedback. We will be back!
The place is perfect, any issues are minor and not worth mentioning, anyone can find faults anywhere, even in your own home. There are not many properties in the area that have parking spaces, so this is a massive bonus if you are coming by car. Space for two also.
Michael
This was our fourth stay at this lovely house. It is perfectly situated for whatever you want to do. We will be back in November.
A lovely property, great location and especially handy having space for 2 cars! Lots of internal space and very comfortable. Thank you.
We enjoyed a lovely stay at Laurel House. The property is well equipped and spacious. Plenty of room on the drive for two large vehicles. Just a couple of quibbles, the double bedroom really needs a door on the ensuite, its rather off putting not having one on there, and several door knobs were broken or missing. Other than that, our stay was lovely.
Rachael
Laurel house was a delightful, well positioned and beautifully laid out home. The owners have made several personal touches that made the stay feel like a home from home. We will definitely consider returning.
A fantastic house to spend Christmas! Everything you need in the kitchen to cook Christmas dinner including 2 ovens. Lots of space. Very central to Whitby, yet in a quiet location. Despite reviews parking for 2 cars was fine. Would definitely stay there again.
Laurel House is a large and very comfortable house. It is well equipped with everything you could want. The house is also conveniently situated in the town. We spent a lovely week and would thoroughly recommend this house.
Nice big house ,social areas where great, lack of wardrobes in all rooms ,full length mirror were missing. Twin beds were apart and I asked for them to be zipped together the housekeeping staff did this for us . Showers were small ,2nd sitting room nice idea but think the space with be better used as a bathroom. ..
Louise
This is my 4th stay in laurel cottage but with a different group of friends. They loved it every bit as much as I do. We were all shocked by a recent 2 star review stating some of the party couldnt stay! Definitely not our view or experience of this gorgeous property If youre thinking of booking laurel cottage, you wont regret it. Laurel cottage is perfectly placed in a quiet part of Whitby but only 5 minutes from the famous whale bones and town. Its so peaceful in the cottage. It manages to do the impossible make a big spacious house feel so cosy. Its so easy to relax in. Comfortable beds, sofas, 2 lovely open fires to light. Very well equipped with everything you need. Especially good for a mixed group of friends as so spacious with 2 separate lounges, big dining table and well stocked kitchen. Parking space is a real bonus in Whitby. Can highly recommend laurel house. Thank you for another lovely week hope to return.
The size of the parking area could be described accurately. A broken planter could be removed to allow more space. The downstairs toilet door doesnt close. Overflow from the roof was leaking. The twin room has no wardrobe to hang clothes up in. Plumbing in the bedroom with the shower needs attention. Heat detector was bleeping on arrival. On a positive the house is a good size for families and in a good location.
We had a lovely stay at Laurel House. Very comfortable property Strange set up with no bathroom door in one en suite bedroom! Would definitely recommend
Absolute gem of a place. Short walking distance into town with its myriad of shops, restaurants, etc. super clean, comfortable, cosy, and spacious. Well equipped kitchen and everything you could want for a fabulous time in Whitby. Loved it and would definitely go again.
Stuart
Great property and plenty of space for all of us. The beds, bedding and towels were lovely and overall a lovely property with everything you need for a weeks stay. Parking was fine for two cars but two large SUVs would struggle as parking is a little awkward.
Fabulous property with lots of living space. Handy for all attractions that Whitby has to offer, which are plenty. Parking for 2 cars at property was added bonus. Might be worth mentioning that Parking on street is restricted to permit holders only. Sign that says this is at bottom of street and is not obvious when arriving at night. This happened when we had moved 2nd car onto street for easy access for the 1st car. It might have said this on some correspondence but if so I missed it and apologies.
Denise
Beautiful and tasteful decor, a really spacious house even with a large group it never felt cramped, there was so much space! Attention to detail was on point and the extremely well equipped kitchen was a refreshing find. The photos on website are great, the experience of being there even better. We had a lovely family stay thank you for opening your home to us.
Rebecca
Lovely house. Thank you for letting us stay. We all had a lovely time. Great location and facilities. Only things were the key to get in was a little tricky. And when we arrived on the top floor the thermostat had been cranked to 30! Easily rectified. But other then that it was perfect!
Weve just had a fabulous week at Laurel house our third stay here we love it so much. Brand new kitchen and radiators installed since our visit last year and its really improved the property to an even higher standard . The kitchen is now a cosy place to cook and its extremely well appointed for a large group. The bedrooms are all good sized doubles and the mattresses and pillows are the comfiest weve all slept so well. There is a lovely light in the property that seems to catch the sun all day long. We enjoyed the two lounge areas and used them both. Its close to shops and cafes and the famous Bertrams from your morning bread and croissants but also lovely and quiet too. A stones throw from west cliff and the beaches of Whitby. If you book here you wont be disappointed its a gem
We had a fantastic time. Thus house absolutely amazing. Everything you need . And just a stride away from whitby town .
Michael
I know the property is due to be refurbished. The cupboard handles make it difficult to open the doors, especially the dishwasher, even if you dont suffer with arthritis.
Claire
Do not be put off by some of the reviews. We stayed 13th20th October and had a fabulous time. The house was very comfortable and cosy and very well equipped. Perfect location and parking for 2 cars additional bonus. We were family of 8 ranging from 12 years old to 88 years old and suited us all. Yes the kitchen might need updating but this did not spoil our holiday one bit. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back! Thank you
Shower in double bedroom wasn't user friendly head dropped down each time tried to use it. Otherwise, apart from some minor updating we were very satisfied with our stay
Great location and a rare property to have its own parking. I agree with previous comments, the property is brilliant but needs maintenance. The kitchen cabinet doors are badly worn, broken caftierre, chipped glasses, no working light in en suite first floor bathroom, full visitors book, noisy toilet on first floor, a front door you are asked not to use and entry is via the kitchen door which you have to slam to get to shut. Having said all that I would still stay there again!
Alistair
We had a wonderful family holiday in Whitby staying at Laurel House. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The location is perfect for beach, harbour, town and eateries! We would like to feedback that the cleaning had been carried out to an average standard but could have been better e.g. black mould growth in the 2nd floor shower, both around the sealant on the shower tray and on the shower hose, and the shower drain traps had not been cleaned. In terms of facilities and maintenance, we reported a few minor issues to the Maintenance contractors at the end of our stay, so hopefully these will be addressed for future guests. Overall, we were very satisfied with Laurel House, as it comfortably accomodated our requirements and we would recommend it for larger family breaks in Whitby.
Michael
During our stay we discovered a number of items that were either broken or missing. We left a list in the property for the housekeeper. Full details can be supplied. The photograph of the kitchen used to advertise the property, does not reflect its current condition.
