Salty Fox Reviews

Angela
Second time at Salty Fox,3 adults and 2 dogs,as usual everything great. Lovely and clean and plenty of equipment, felt right at home straight away.Lovely quiet area only few minutes from centre, bus and train station.Dogs love going on the beautiful beaches and lots of walks for them, dogs made very welcome .Got the bus to Robin hood bay, about 20 mins, and walked back to Whitby along the Cleveland Way,took about 3hrs at leisurely pace and few stops for breaks, ages 73,50 and 52 yrs ,well worth it. Great accommodation and would certainly recommend.
The property is close to the centre of Whitby approximately a 10 minute walk to the shops. The house is on a hill so the view all the way across to the Abbey, from one of the double bedrooms, is lovely. It was nice and warm, we didn't touch the heating as it was already set. The first living room was as shown and comfortable for a small group but unfortunately there was not enough seating for our group of 7 so someone was always sat on the floor. A couple of floor cushions or a beanbag would have helped. The second sitting room was nicely decorated but didn't contain much other than a sofa facing a wall, so noone really wanted to sit in there. The TVplaystation advertised was not there, a note was left to tell us it was out of order, so that was a little disapointing. The beds were comfortable but some of the bedding a coverlet? in one of the double rooms was stained which wasn't nice and there was an old sock found under the bed in the twin room. The twin room also had a lot of wiringextension lead on the floor which could be a trip hazard, especially for children. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The kitchendiner was ok although not particularly cosy. The yard was very basic, nothing inviting. Overall our stay was ok it was warm and close to town and fine for a few days when out and about most of the time anyway. I would have preferred it to feel a bit more homely and for it to have had more of a deep clean.
This is a self check in establishment. Prior to arrival I made contact with the staff to inform them about our arrival times. The light was on the property for our arrival, It was clean and neat through out the home. It felt and looked like a palace, everything you would need, however, we did have to go out and buy some toilet rolls. The beds are low and having hip issues I had problems getting off the bed but made it. Lol It does need a light at the front of the property to help with unlocking the door. The welcome pack would have been better in the living room and not the kitchen area. Other wise our stay was fantastic and relaxing.
A true home from home that we would quite happily have moved into. Being slightly out of the normal tourist area it had a slightly different feel from the usual places to stay. The house itself is amazing, from the basement kitchen to the top floor bedrooms. We would highly recommend it and will hopefully stay again.
We had a fantastic stay at the Salty Fox and would highly recommend it. The location for getting into town was excellent being just a short walk away. The house was perfect for us and our Cocker Spaniel Maverick. We will definitely be back, thank you
I have waited a while to write this report to be more constructive in my criticism, rather than just an angry rant. The house is large, has space, but I wouldnt recommend it to friends and I wouldnt stay again. The house is disgustingly dirty, and I say that as an owner of pets, children and grandchildren, all of whom make their own mess which makes a house a home but not what I want when I am paying a large amount in rent for one week. I contacted the number on the house file, which turned out to be the owner of the cleaning company. In fairness she did offer to send a cleaner to the house, but I couldnt face the disruption that would cause . We hoovered the house anyway, and cleaned the floor, but staining on towels, carpets, bedding, was just not acceptable. White towels are great as they can be boiled or bleached yet the ones left for us were horrible. We used our beach towels instead! Our toddler had to wear shoes at all times as, we all discovered, floors were so dirty that socks became black! Mattresses are thin, as are pillows. My son and his wife stored their cases under the bed in the main bedroom. When they pulled them out to get items, a whole cloud of dust, dirt ,and dog hair came with them. So not even a quick hoover under the beds by your cleaners! The ultimate disgusting item And proof that the house was not being cleaned was found when my younger son opened the drawer of the bedside table and discovered a USED SANITARY TOWEL, in a pair of dirty knickers! Absolutely disgusting! Other things no welcome pack. Crockery dirty in the cupboard, so we put it all through the dishwasher before use. Old clothing left in the kitchen. Couldnt use the main oven in the kitchen as the clock could not be set, and this was needed to start the oven. On the day we arrived, there was not a single sheet of toilet paper anywhere in the house! I dont expect you to provide this for the week, but none at all in any of the bathrooms was not really acceptable. So before we unpacked after a long journey we had to go buy toilet rolls! It just seemed to be one thing after another. The outside area is horrible. Just concrete and some chairs. Not even a plant to brighten the place. Maybe paint a wall to make it seem less depressing. Although not under your control, parking is abysmal. Feel free to email me about any of the above.

The property overall was lovely, however the cleanliness lets it down, I had to wash blankets as they were not clean with visible signs of things on them. There was a lot of dust in areas. There was clothing and other bits found under beds and behind tables I assume from previous occupants. There is a small hole in the floor which is fine if you dont have dogs or small children but my one year old sons foot got caught in it. There is also a smell of sewage outside the back at times when the water is running such as someone having a shower.
Katrina
In general the house was OK, quite a few cleaning issues, the kitchen was very dirty, cooking remains in oven, dirty towel in tumble dryer, a couple of clothes items left in drawers, bedrooms didn't feel like they had been cleaned, rug in onsuite bedroom was very dirty, front lounge smelt of urine, plus side beds were very comfortable and clean. Also we did not receive welcome pack which would have been lovely after the long journey from Norfolk, in general my family and I had a nice stay
Rarely have we stayed somewhere that was so focused on making sure our stay would be so positive. So much thought had been put into the house. Everything we needed was available, including things that were 'bonus' like buckets and spades for the kids to play with on the beach, and board games to play. We would definitely stay again!
Heather
Absolutely fabulous property, so close to the centre of town. It is situated up some steps and a steep hill, think we were getting used to it by the end of the week! Fabulous Indians and pizzakebab shop next door too, well worth a visit. We ate out everyday, Harry's for breakfast as well as the Singing Kettle. Afternoon tea at Hetty & Betty was amazing. Would definitely return to stay only one downside was no TV in bedroom but they aren't for everyone and a massive bruise on my leg from catching it everytime I walked past the end of the bed!
Angela
Fantastic property, warm, cosy and plenty of utensils. In a great position,5 minute walk to Whitby centre but in a nice quiet spot.Beds comfy and lovely clean bedding and towels.Lots of stairs but no problem ,good exercise, ages 72,51,and 49yrs.No car ,able to go on some lovely walks from the property, also went to Larpool Aquaduct,Whalebone and of course Whitby Abbey, gorgeous views plus a lovely cafe and shop ,199 steps were manageable and well worth it.Two dogs loved the beach, went every day plus lots of dog friendly places.First time at Whitby and won't be the last, would certainly recommend this gorgeous property.
Great house would definitely stay again well worth it
We only had a weekend break at the Salty Fox and it was just as described. It was clean, warm, comfortable, fully equipped for our needs and very central for Whitby shops cafes and restaurants.
It was amazing staycation. Super clean and cozy. Really good location. I will definitely recommend this cottage.
Lauren
Lovely weeks stay with the family 4 adults and 3yearold plus the dogs. Very comfy and plenty of space. Great location, walking distance to town centre and local walks. Short drive to local attractions. House is very well equipped and the stickle bricks were a big hit.
The house is good and facilities provided were excellent. There were a couple of problems on arrival in the kitchen, but we sorted that. The only other issue is car parking which can be difficult in busy periods. Due to 4 floors being used it is more suitable for younger families.
This property was perfect for our party of 3 adults, 1 teenager & 3 younger children. A beautiful house with loads of character & great facilities. Not really suitable for anyone with mobility problems as it's set over 4 floors with many flights of stairs
Loved the way you handled my booking and the cottage it was relatively clean. However is not suitable for people over 50 far too many steps and the only outdoor area had a long dead bird. Only one set of keys working therefore we had to leave the keys in the safe or go out and come back all together. Had to get out of bed in the middle of the night when my grand children went out.
Josiah
This was a good sized house, with plenty of features that made it suitable for a large family. There was plenty of space and storage for us all. The kitchen was well equipped which made it easy for family meals. The house was very warm, and the bathrooms were great particularly the showers which were hot and powerful. The furniture was modern and comfortable. The location was excellent, being close to the town. The information folder needs updating, as the management company listed at the front was out of date. I called on the first evening to ask about a remote control for the TV in the lounge to be told that we don't clean that property, ots npt.kne of ours. Luckily the remote control from the kitchen diner worked for both TVs, but if we had had a serious issue over the bank holiday weekend, we would have been stuck with noone to contact. This could have been an issue! Overall the house was great for our needs, and we really enjoyed our stay there.
Jonathan
Will definitely be booking this property again. Handy location, close to everything.
Duncan
Clean property with loads of space and very comfortable, parking was difficult a few times but short walk into town
Samantha
We all had a lovely stay it was very homely. Great location as it was near everything we wanted to visit. Would say that you need mirrors in all the bedrooms though. Looking forward to revisiting soon.
We have stayed in holiday homes all around the uk for 30 years so my feedback is partly based on my experience relative to other properties. I will try and be constructive. We found that Salty Fox had been cleaned on a surface level to a satisfactory standard but it needs a really good deep clean. The cupboards, the fridge, the crockery, cutlery etc all need cleaning properly. The kitchen has no extraction so there is a lingering smell of stale cooking. The office blinds that are there instead of curtains or proper blinds are unattractive and noisy, if you like to sleep with the window open, as the chains rattle. The little yard was dirty and needs brushing and hosing. The rear alleyway is disgusting but you cant do much about that. A welcome pack of soft biscuits and some milk sachets isnt really a welcome pack so why bother? Its almost an insult. As a comparison to other houses over the years, this is expensive. The holiday companies have taken advantage of covid and hiked prices in the uk without bringing them back down afterwards. Sorry for the negative comments but, although we had a great time in Whitby, if I was to return Id choose somewhere else to stay for the reasons above.
Nice house. Easily sleeps 7. Good amenities. Kitchen not the cleanest when we arrived. Bread bin looked like a biology experiment with weeks old bread within. Kitchen could do with a large Pyrex bowl and a casserole dish for the oven but overall well stocked. Would recommend a trip here. Take ear plugs to silence the gulls!
Salty fox is a lovely house. It was clean and tidy. Will definitely book it again.
Really enjoyed our stay at the salty fox! Such a great location and house is just perfect for familys and just loved that it was dog friendly. Would definitely stay again if was to return to Whitby. Parking can be an issue but we had 3 cars and all managed to find on street parking so really good overall.
Beautiful house, tastefully decorated. We are not mad clean freaks at all but on behalf of how much I imagine owners are paying the cleaners and how much our stay cost, I am commenting carpets needed a good clean, towel rails dusty, hairs on floor in bathroom, light fittings had cobwebs on, pans, plates etc dirty. Overall, just not sparkling which would imagine for such a home. Also, cafetire broken.
We loved the size of this house, it was perfect for our family. There was everything we needed apart from a frying pan and the location was perfect. The bathrooms were lovely and really clean and the complimentary toiletries were a nice touch. There were plenty of towels provided and lots of storage space too. There were things like windbreaks, parasols and crab buckets in the cupboard for the warmer weather and an array of board games which was great. The actual house is beautiful with some original features still in place. The only downside was the cleanliness, especially in the kitchen. The fridge hadnt been wiped out and the inside and doors of the kitchen units were dirty. We had to wash pots before use as they were still dirty. The tiles were grubby and there was mess all over the skirting board near the dishwasher. The other thing but not major was that the folder said there was a welcome hamper of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits. Most of this was available but no milk and biscuits. It would have been great to be able to make a brew after our journey. A few people mentioned the parking but we didnt find it a problem. We had two cars and both unloaded outside and found spots down the next street.
We had a wonderful stay and it lived up to expectations. It was decorated for Christmas so immediately felt at home. We all thought the beds were exceptionally comfy One little thing. we couldn't find the key for the back gate so had to walk all the way round with the rubbish, Probably hiding in plain sight!!!
We stayed at the Salty Fox from 03092022 to 10092022. What a lovely property, it's well decorated, clean and tidy and has everything you need. The bed in the master bedroom is a king size something you don't often get in holiday lets and really comfortable. The location is perfect for a quick 5 minute stroll down into the town, although coming back takes a little longer as it's uphill . There are some really lovely places to visit in the local area, Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough, York to name but a few. It's great if you are taking your four legged friend with you, a lot of places are dog friendly. The only slight downside is the parking, not a huge issue for us a couple with a dog but I can imagine for a family with children it might be a bit of a pain especially for a lone parent with young children. The parking is in the street and is of course on a first come first serve basis, however, you can only park on one side of the street as it's quite narrow which inevitably means there will not be enough parking for everyone. Also, there are some inconsiderate people who take up more than one space. There is parking in nearby street so it does mean a short walk back to the property. We simply pulled up outside the property offloaded then went and found a parking space and did the same thing when reloading, I think the neighbors are use to it and didn't complain. Overall we had a great week and would definitely go back and would recommend the property, it's one of the nicest we have ever rented.
A fantastic holiday home for our, three generation, family. It's proximity to the harbour, beaches and many pubs and restaurants is a massive advantage. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
Lynsey
House was clean and tidy. It was close to the centre of Whitby and not far from the beach. Only small thing I would say is the bedding on the king size bed was for a double bed and not a king size so it kept coming off, but apart from that it was a great place to stay. It was facilitated really well. Would recommend to a friend! We had a great family holiday.
Michael
Great house which make it a home from home. Very clean good layout. Ideal for other visiting places in the area. Lovely beach at Sandsend

We have no complaints whatsoever, a lovely proerty, centrally located, with excellent clenlines and facilities, I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Whitby or indeed, the Yorkshire coast Thankyou Robert Knapp
The lack of parking made the whole week quite stressful. It got to the point that when we got the car into a space on the street we just left it there so did not use the car to explore the area. It was a huge negative as we had planned to go around the wider area. The house was nice and comfy. Only issues with the house was the nonlocking back yard gate, the smell of pee in the yard and the terrible office style blinds which did not block any light for sleeping. Fixed the pee smell with some detergent and hot water but could do nothing about the light and lack of security if the kitchen door was open for the dogs. It was spacious and Whitby is a great place to explore but the parking means we will not be back.
Eleonore
All good except kitchen which had not been well cleaned and was lacking some basics for the price of the rental e. G. there werent 5 matching glasses only mismatched glasses that looked as though they had come from a pub. There was a small selection of pans. Nothing big enough for a larger party. Floor was sandy and sticky when we arrived. Expected more for over a grand per week.
Wonderful property and we had a wonderful time using it as our base to explore Whitby.
