Great place only a couple of things The bathrooms could just do with a little ... Great place only a couple of things The bathrooms could just do with a little tidy up looking a little old The parking at the rear I think need to be more signed so you can see it a bit more clear as its very tight around the back
This was our second stay at Albany House and we enjoyed it immensely. The house is ideally situated in Whitby, contains everything you need, is spacious and all the beds are comfortable. We are already looking forward to returning to Albany House next year.

We had a lovely stay at Albany house, two families sharing with young kids worked really well. The house was a great base to explore Whitby from, everything was walkable. Bedrooms were well set up and there were plenty of bathrooms. We would book again.
This is our third stay at Albany house. For our large family holiday it is perfect and has a great central location in Whitby. The property is becoming dated and could benefit from being updated and shown some tlc. But it does not detract from the great property that it is! We love staying at Albany house and will hopefully be back in the future
An excellent holiday house, apart from a very few minor glitches eg first floor first double bedroom door would not close properly. I echo all the positive comments from previous visitors and cannot understand those of Lee in September, none of which are remotely true! The only slight drawback was the absence of a downstairs toilet, which I think could be remedied at reasonable cost ? by adapting the quite spacious utility room. This addition would move the rating from excellent to superb.

We have just had the most wonderful stay at Albany House. Situated in the perfect position in the town and with ample parking, the house itself was clean, spacious, tastefully furnished and very welcoming. Breakfast round the large kitchen table was the perfect start to the day. Everyone staying had a great nights sleep and all bedding and towels were spotless and there were no problems with water or the showers. Yes, it was a little tired in places but it added to the charm of this lovely home and we cant wait to come back.

This is a lovely big comfortable house in a perfect location. It's great to find somewhere central with parking. Having stayed in October we were especially glad that the heating worked really well. It is beautifully decorated with only one or two areas of minor endofseason damage. The living room has plenty of comfortable seating for 9 and there's a big table in the kitchen. The only real drawback is that the first floor bedrooms are much larger and have en suites, as opposed to the smaller bedrooms on the second floor but this is an unavoidable part of the layout and there was no problem with any of the rooms. One thing that should be fixed is that the showers were slowdraining. Thank you, would definitely stay here again.
Fabulous property! Had everything we needed. Absolutely brilliant location, just a short walk into the town our teenage boys loved being able to explore the area, sights and bakeries before the whole house had stirred!! Our only recommendation for the house would be thicker curtains required. Although the sun shining through the windows did make us get up and out early just a little too early for us!! Already planning next year's holiday to Whitby!

We enjoyed our stay at Albany House very much. It is a large property, well furnished, with ample space and lots of bathrooms, parking for two cars, ideal for a larger group. My wife and I stayed there with our daughter's family, six people in total. There were a few maintenance issues which I have reported to Sykes Cottages and, unusually, no welcome pack on arrival. Well situated for the harbour, station and Pannett Park, just a few minutes away and only 10 minutes walk from the beach.
Judith
Idea spot for town, pubs and restaurants, however the property needs a lot of money spending on it. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the plumbing is very iffy and the house could be cleaner. The knob to one of the top floor bedrooms sheered off, locking the occupant in who then had to be let out. On a plus, the bedding and towels are top notch and the property is ideal for large groups as it big and spacious and on the whole we did enjoy our stay there.
We had a lovely stay in Albany house. This is our second stay there. It was great for my family, its central location works great for us, as well as having its own onsite parking. Some areas were a little dated, and all the bathsshowers are very slow to drain, meaning you have to stop the shower half way through, or risk it over flowing especially on the 2nd floor shower but it doesnt detract from a lovely house!
Annette
Beautiful house just a few little things missing it sleeps 9 but only 3 wine glasses! no loo roll holders & towel rails in some of the bathrooms. Also the only place I have ever stayed with no welcome pack whatsoever milk etc
Had a lovely stay! House is gorgeous and very clean on arrival. Happy with the stay just a few things that we found a little frustrating not anyones fault Due to the house been right next door to the fish shop i came back to the house and found someone sat in our garden eating there fish and chips, i asked them to move and they refused and was very rude. We then unfortunately woke up one morning to find the garden with take away wrappers and food all over the floor and the furniture everywhere. I appreciate this is out of your control but maybe putting a sign up on the front gate or gated padlock to stop people passing by coming in. Also the second bedroom on the landing has a very bad smell of sewage. We were actually unable to use this bathroom due to the smell, not very ideal when your paying alot of money to stay somewhere. It seemed to get worse when other bathrooms were been used.
Albany provides an excellent stay option while exploring Whitby. Situated in the town center, it offers utmost convenience for the people we were assisting. The beach, arcades, and restaurants are all within walking distance, and key attractions in Whitby are just a 510 minute drive away, such as the market and other mustvisit spots. The only challenge we encountered was with parking due to the narrow street, but we successfully managed to handle that. Apart from that, the house's superb location proved to be strategically advantageous, allowing us to save on fuel by easily walking to various destinations.
Duncan
The hot water had a most unpleasent smell, it was due to the heating element. It was reported early, we were hoping, hoping! that it would be replaced, and it wasn't! Also reported that the fridge door was in need of some TLC, guess what, it wasn't. Those were the negatives, overall we had a most enjoyable time.
We have stayed at this property 4 times over the last few years and noticed the decline in the maintenance of the property. It is marketed as 5 star, which may have been appropriate a few years ago but not now. We noted several problems in the visitor book last year which are still there currently, and with the absence of the visitor book would suggest the owner doesnt want guests to see issues arent being addressed. All the showers do not drain correctly. A faulty flickering lamp in the living room knocks out the main light and tv when it flickers. The cleaning isnt 100 with dusty surfaces and skirtings. Decorating is looking tired and dirty, with plaster stud holes in the walls in the room we stayed in. Having to strip beds when leaving isnt a norm for 5 star accommodation and highlights the cleaning issue as the mattress protector in our room was marked and dirty. Kitchen fridge door is on an angle. We decided to rebook from last years visit as the location and parking works for us, but have decided this was our last visit to Albany House as decline and lack of maintenance to the property doesnt justify the rental fee.
We had a good stay in Albany house. The house was much bigger than expected. The facilities were mostly good and had pretty much everything we could think of. We managed to cook many meals in the house. We did have a problem with one of the ensuites which was fixed in a couple of days. Overall a lovely stay in Albany house and we will be back one day!
Graham
Superb property, large open bedrooms, living spaces and well stocked kitchen products etc. .. location is superb with parking a real plus... decor is superb, with the main lounge the high point. Bathrooms are aging and could do with an upgrade but generally speaking for bedroom capacity it is well worth its 5 star rating.
We have stayed in Albany House previously and this time we still loved the situation which is so central and the parking which can be difficult in Whitby. The Christmas tree was a lovely welcome on our arrival BUT we were disappointed in the lack of cleanliness with dust in wardrobes dirtying our clothes, cobwebs, and moldy window frames. Also there were only a few clothes hangers and problems with maintenance such as no lock on a bathroom door, tired kitchen units, a shower tray which didnt drain and was in danger of overflowing. Also this is the first time in a Sykes cottage that we havent had a welcome pack with tea and coffee which meant we had to wait for our supermarket delivery to have a drink. On the positive side we were able to prepare a Christmas meal for 9 in the kitchen and had a really enjoyable stay. For the price next year we wont book again.
Lovely property and location, ideal for what we wanted. Having 2 car parking spaces was really useful. Only downside was that one of the ensuite bathrooms was out of order but that didnt really cause an issue. Plenty of space, cutlery, crockery etc.
Jessica
The location was fantastic and the parking was a huge bonus however we had a few issues with the property 1. There was no water pressure for the main bath so it took over an hour to run this meant 9 people were having to sue the bath in the ensuite 2. All the door handles kept coming off, luckily nobody got stuck in any of the rooms however it was quite unsettling and we had to keep being cautious of not closing any of the doors 3. It claims to be luxurious however it was quite dirty and everywhere needed revamping.
