The Station House Reviews

Lovely house,it was clean and perfect thank you
Excellent property, well equipped, very clean and great location. Nice welcome surprise to find home baked bread and a selection of freshly made cakes on arrival. The trains are not at all intrusive, kids loved watching the trains only disappointment was that due track issues the NYM railway steam trains were not running to Whitby at the time. Good pub opposite serving good food & beers both dog and children friendly. Easy walk into Whitby along the river. Butcher & Bakers in the village serving quality food. Big shout out to Pippa who ensured the pet medication left behind was promptly & safely returned. A very enjoyable week kids loved the trains Certainly recommend .
Enjoyable stay in the house. Although it was very cold outside, it was beautifully warm inside , lots of seating areas, comfy beds, loads of hot water. We all fell in love with the Aga in the kitchen and enjoyed using it for cooking, first timers and successful. Nice pub just opposite and excellent butchers in the village. It was lovely seeing the trains on the station, the children particularly liked joining in the chorus of train whenever one went through. Theres several footpaths that take you into Whitby, about a 20 minute walk. Would happily recommend and use again.
Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful accommodation. It was delight from start to the end of our stay. All the memorabilia and the lovely clocks. We booked it for my Husband's 60th Birthday as he loves trains as his use to work on them. He loved it and the surprise of his family being there too. A big Thank you to Pippa and Graham for the homemade cakes especially the lemon drizzle. Thank you again from the Vickers and Lambert family in Doncaster

Hi, we enjoyed our stay. However we all thought it was very poor having to strip the beds, along with towels and putting them in black bin liners. I have never had to do this and wont be doing it again.

Weve had a great week at Station House, good location for exploring the area. The weather was a real mix, rain and snow but the house was a warm base to return to. Lots of room for all of us. We would have loved stair gates as we had 3 year old twins with us. The pub and butchers are well worth a visit.
A beautiful and interesting cottage in a lovely location a lovely riverside stroll into Whitby. I couldn't ask for more.
We had a wonderful week staying at The Station House and were very sad to leave. A fabulous characterful cottage equipped with everything you could need or want. A perfect location for walks and for exploring the beautiful coastline and the North York Moors National Park. One of our friends arrived by train and it was lovely to be able to meet him straight off the train at our front door. Fabulous to see the steam trains going by at the weekend and during the steam gala at NYMR. Great communication from the owner and a lovely welcome of freshly baked bread, cakes and fresh milk on our arrival. To add to this, a great dog friendly pub serving delicious meals straight across the road and a butchers shop, also selling fresh bread and cheese, a two minute walk away. Hope to be back again soon.

Nice place and decorated in character for the building with all the vintage furniture, log burner, chiming clocks etc. the only down side was the need to keep the curtains closed that overlooks the railway station, as people keep looking in off the platform, so without it is like you are in a goldfish bowl. Lights go out on the railway station at 11.30pm, so the front bedrooms are bright due to this until then, but the curtains are very heavy, so still able to sleep ok. Great location for Whitby and all the other locations in the area, trains run from the platform every 90mins if you fancy leaving the car parked up for a few days and just use that, there is a ticket machine on the platform. Local pub is directly across the road, food ok and it is dog friendly, there is a menu in the house for the pub food, but I assume it is a few years old as the prices were generally 25 higher than printed.
Exceptional place to stay easy access to Whitby via train car or on foot lovely walks things to do for all ages. We drove to various little villages all beautiful in different ways and within 30 minutes of our base. The cottage was very comfortable and having a wine refrigerator is a big help ! More room in the refrigerator for basics. It was simply a pleasure staying there.

I had no idea my sister was as big steam train fan as my partner nor how much excitement the trains would cause ! This property is absolutely lovely and we have had the most fantastic week here. From the Aga to the furnishings, the signs and pictures, the choice of the mens or ladies waiting rooms, it was all just beautiful. Plenty of space for all and three completely different tables at which to eat though we often found too many of us all around the smallest table in the kitchen ! The house has been set out and prepared with love and care by the owner, Pippa, who is absolutely lovely. Ive never used an Aga before but I made a delicious fish pie and it felt very apt way to boil the kettle in such a characterful property. We walked to Whitby the steps route and the flat route, went on the rowing boats and paddle boards up the road, used the local butchers, also Radfords at Sleights and the pub was brilliant too and also dog friendly. Thank you for a wonderful week at The Station House ! We will be back x
Station house is a wonderful, quirky place to stay. My mum loved the steam trains passing by. The aga was lovely to have a go with. We were left some tasty goodies on arrival. Ruswarp has a great butchers which we made use of a few times and the pub over the road did nice lunches. The beds were comfortable. The second floor rooms were limited head room with a curved staircase and not great if you have any mobility issues. The gardens areas were nice and had a new table and benches in the one leading off the lounge. The other courtyard could maybe do with some attention as to the plants and pots. The two lounges were lovely. One was more modern feeling and cooler . The other was cosier, and had the lovely grand father clock which was amazing to look at and listen to. The porch area was a nice bit of extra space to put shoes, coats and to do dishes, sort the dogs out after being on the beach. I do have to mention that we had a flood in the porch one night with the heavy rain which the Owner thought was to do with leaves in the guttering. We had to dry out the area the next day, floors, cupboards and rugs etc rescue some coats and shoes which got wet. Fortunately we didn't have anything of value in there. It didn't spoil the holiday and was dealt with by the owners a couple of days later. All in all, we had a really good time and would very much recommend the house.
Thank you for a fantastic stay. The Station House was a great base for us to explore the surrounding areas. With a 5 year old who absolutely adores trains, The Station House had everything to make the stay special. From the signs, stained glass window, and the train board game, we couldn't have asked for more. We also got to see the Steam Train passing on a few occasions. The House was spotless, and had everything you need. Thanks again, we loved it!
Christine
The Station House was just perfect for our party of 9 and 2 dogs. . When we arrived we could smell fresh bread baking and there was lovely home baked cake and milk in the fridge. Such welcoming touches. Sumptuous furnishings and comfortable beds. Fluffy towels..If I had to pick 1 small disappointment, it was the barbeque. It wasn't clean but hey it wasn't Barbie weather anyway.

We stayed as a multigenerational family group for a birthday weekend. Everything was perfect. Anything we could have wanted or needed was available at the house. Even though we were only there for a couple of nights it felt like 'home'. The Aga was great and kept the house warm and cosy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have some lovely memories made there.
Station house is a lovely stay for a mixed family group. All details were accurate. Spotlessly clean. Fresh bread and cakes were delightful. Good communication with pippa. A very memorable weekend.
We were originally to be a party of ten, but half the party werent able to go due to work commitments. 5 of us stayed, we had a wonderful week, the cottage is beautiful, finished to a high standard, quality furnishings the pillows are the best Ive ever slept on! everything was thought of, even towels and bowls for the dog! We are looking to book again in spring summer when we can hopefully all go, including my granddaughters. We have also stayed next door a few years ago ticket office which is owned by the same people and found that to be the same standard. highly recommended and will definitely be back.

We had an amazing time staying at this house during the October half term. With 8 adults and 4 kids, there was plenty of room for everyone. The beds and pillows were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a good nights sleep for all of us. The kids were thrilled to have their own room where they could watch films and play games. One of the highlights was the location right by the train station. We enjoyed watching the trains go by throughout the day, especially the steam trains, which the kids absolutely loved. The house itself was huge, providing ample space for our large group. The parking was great, and the location was perfect. We also enjoyed the pub across the road, which had a fantastic atmosphere. Overall, this was a gem of a find, and we would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!

Great property loads of room perfect for large families i think the garden could do with a little tlc. We have been 3 times and the garden area has not been updated or maintained ! But you cant fault the whole property it lovely and spotless and the welcome pack is 1st class.
Richard
This is a comfortable and well equipped house in a great location. There is a very nice pub opposite, and Whitby is an easy walk or bustraintaxi ride away. Being able to run out of the house and wave at the passing steam trains was an extra special bonus.
This house had everything needed for our holiday and more ! ! Spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds and ensuite showerbathrooms that were small but perfectly formed. From the minute we walked in to the smell of baking bread and the welcome pack to the minute we left to come home we felt relaxed in this house. Seeing the trains go past our front window was an added bonus. The enclosed courtyard gardens were just right for our grandsons to run around it. Enjoyed a Sunday lunch st the Bridge Inn opposite. Thank you Pippa and Graham.
Christine
We loved our stay in the station house , location was fabulous. Some of the group who needed to use the top floor , were unhappy climbing in and out of the beds , and feel they should only be advertised as children's rooms . One couple had to buy a stool to reach the wardrobe to hang up clothes . Patio doors in the lounge would not open . The patio garden was very dissapionting , could have been lovely with a little TLC .Nice weather whilst we were there , but didn't feel we wanted to sit out in that area , although that area had the most sun ! Paving all needed weeding , furniture needs replacing dirty and old few pots with live flowers would be nice , really let the house down . Yes
One of the best weeks in 30 years for our group of 6 ageing walkers. A great place to stay, opposite an excellent and friendly pub with perfect access to trains and local buses.

The Station House is the perfect place for a family holiday. The facilities are excellent, with attention to detail and a welcoming atmosphere ... a freshly baked loaf included! Ruswarp is a beautiful village with activities close by to suit everyone and quick and easy access to the coast. This has been our second stay and I am certain that it will not be our last.
Stella

Absolutely gorgeous house with everything you need, we stayed here for a week with 8 adults and 3 children age range 1076 the house had enough cutlery pots pans and more for all of us, there was nothing more we needed, lovely accommodation, excellent location, enough parking for our 3 cars, we had a perfect week with our extended family, made lots of memories,
Fantastic place to stay. All the amenities you could ever want. Loved using the Aga & the bath was lush.
Station House is a lovely, wellequipped property in a great location. We were provided with everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The large dining room was perfect for our group and we also appreciated the fact that there were two large sitting rooms. The occasional passing steam train provided much excitement!
The property was absolutely marvellous it be of the best places weve ever rented and weve been to quite a few as a family clean, warm and very well equipped especially for a keen cook ! The Bridge Inn was a bonus!! Whitby is a lovely place with great people and we will be back !
Andrea
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. We wanted for nothing, everything we needed was provided. A quant lovely property, my grandchildren loved watching the trains stopping at the station or the steam trains passing through. A lovely little village with just a short walk to whitby & a large play area just 510 walk. We certainly would recommend this property.
We thought everything was excellent. No complaints at all. Thank you.
Perfect location for our requirements, peaceful and tranquil. . the sound of the occasional train passing the platform, especially the steam train, made you feel like you were part of the railway children. The property was spacious and well equipped especially the kitchen. Bedrooms were easily accessible, although there were 2 stories to the property .. the first staircase was manageable for some of our group with medical issues. Beds were extremely comfortable and plenty of bathrooms. Our group was ladies only and the 2 separate sitting rooms proved beneficial for quiet time for some there is a well stocked cupboard of games and jigsaws which were well used. Thankyou fir a wonderful week which ended with Storm Biddi Wow.. what an experience
The Station House is a property full of character. The location is perfect for exploring this beautiful area both inland and the coast. With the added bonus of being able to walk into Whitby and also both train and bus services available from the village, Ruswarp makes travel accessible for all. The property has everything you will need for a lovely stay.
2rd time at the station house ! Just booked for the 3rd time in 2024 It's just a great place so homely it has everything we need for our family holiday The kids just love it ! And my dogs a safe in the court yard area's. So local to the local amenities and walking distance to whitby. We would all like to say thank you to Pipa for having a lovely house to rent !
Caroline
What a delight Station House at Ruswarp is. As a mixed bag of family, friends and a dog we had no complaints at all. We were able to share bathrooms out so that each couple or friends had their own facilities, though the two friends using the upper floor had to go all the way to the downstairs shower room, so for some it might prove to be more of an issue?! With two comfortable lounge areas and two outside spaces there was plenty of relaxation space. The whole house was tastefully decorated. The bedrooms were very comfortable. There was a fully stocked kitchen with lots of pots and crocks and cutlery. The internet was strongest in the dining room. My husband says not to forget to mention the addiction of the trains and the delightful walks in the area. I must also give a shout out for the fantastic butchers five minutes up the road, which also has a deli counter and bakery. I would certainly recommend this excellent house.
Helena
We had a tremendous week in The Station House. It met, and in places exceeded, our expectations.
Beautiful home. Spotlessly clean. Thank you. Every detail thought of Dog towels, beach toys. Oh the Aga! We all enjoyed the pictures and ornaments. So much charm. We felt like guests of royalty. Beds were amazing. Each of us enjoyed a perfect night's sleep throughout the week. Lovely prompt response from owner when reporting a the ground floor shower. Turns out it was our operational error. Daily treats of steam trains were amazing. We were all surprised by how little noise there was. A perfect week, in perfect location in a perfect home. Made wonderful multigenerational memories.
Andrew
Nice old Railway cottage with lots of character. Builders working just off the drive made getting out a bit of a challenge
Excellent stay with our family. Absolutely loved it and all of our needs were catered for. Lovely Christmas tree put up. Would highly recommend
