Mariners' Rest Reviews

Amanda
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. Very easy to find and a great location! Fab views from the back of the property, right next to the Train line, which you dont even notice, trains passing are very few and never at night. Property has everything and comfortable. I would recommend to stay here, we would return.
Christine
Hi, we had a lovely visit and had excellent communication with the host. Only points worth mentioning was there were no instructions for operation of the fire it got a bit chilly in evening due to time of year or the waste recycling, and the pressure was very low in the two bedroom's shower though temperature was great.
The only consideration may be to have a washerdryer rather than just washing machine. However with the under floor heating and towel radiators drying was not a big deal. Lovely to meet the ladies as we left. We shall likely book again I have looked but not available for the date we had in mind.
Good access to the town, and station.
Michael
The house was very clean and well presented. It's ideally situated for easy access into town. Outside patio was secure enough for our large dog . Lovely welcome pack too, thank you. Note .... we arrived after a very cold spell and heavy snow and house had been empty , it took a day or 2 to warm through , especiallythe top floor bedroom ..... .. so maybe the the heating could of been left on for our arrival....... just for future reference in cold weather ..... didn't spoil or stay at all. We have booked this again for next November .
Georgina
Perfect perfect house, location, amenities, comfort cannot think of anything not to like. Little extras left by owner wine and flowers. Just perfect
Lesley
Very comfortable house just as described. Loved the trains. Parking brilliant for Whitby. No problems .
We have stayed a number of times at Mariners' Rest, and we rebook because of the convenient location, as well as the comfort and facilities within the property. We always enjoy watching the trains passing by. The property was as welcoming and wellequipped as ever. This was our first time visiting with a baby, and we appreciated the travel cot and highchair being set up and ready for us. Thank you for another lovely stay!
We had a lovely stay at Mariners Rest. It is very homely and the trains didn't bother us at all. Thank you. We will definitely book again
Beautifully presented and with many welcoming touches flowers, bread, milk, tea, etc, etc. We don't have even a tiny complaint it was all spot on.
Christine
This was our 2nd time staying here4 adults and 2 children and we all loved it again. The holiday home is spacious, clean, comfortable and welcoming and the owner suppled all the basicstea, coffee, sugar etc and we appreciated the bread, milk, cheese and the flowers were beautiful. The parking for 2 cars is always a bonus. It's about a 15 min walk to the centre so it's in a very convenient postion. What was good to see is that the owners really care about their visitors comfort not always the case! as there was new outdoor furniture and the home had been redecorated including new lounge seating since our last visit so well done and thank you.
Perfect accommodation for families, walking distance to everything Whitby has to offer and close enough by car to the various beauty spots in the surrounding area. Thank you for another wonderful week at Mariners Rest.
Claire
We enjoyed our stay. The house was in a great location. We walked into Whitby town centre after dinner most nights. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. There was enough room for two large cars on the driveway. I would recommend the house.
Katharine
Lovely holiday, house had everything we needed and is in good location various walks from the front door. The parking for 2 cars was great and we enjoyed watching the trains. Welcome food, wine and flowers were much appreciated. The sunshine meant we made good use of the outdoor space.
Patricia
This is really nice accommodation. We had no problems. Nice reception gifts from your client on arrival. Had to watch my head in some parts of the accommodation though!!
Lorraine
We had a lovely holiday at Marriners rest. The sofas and beds were very comfortable . The rooms light and airy The trains although close to property were not an issue . The property had many good points. It was located at the bottom of a steep hill . It was then on the flat and not too far to walk to the Center of the town. A few issues with the property. The kitchen could do with a deep clean . Plus an extra toilet roll in bathroom and toilet. The balcony could also do with some maintenance. If these issues addressed I would say its perfect.
Norman
Everything was excellent, second time in the property, great house, great location. Will definitely come again.
Kirsty
We stayed at Mariners Rest for the 2nd time and we loved it just as much as we did the first time, if not more. The vendor of the property is an absolute delight to speak with and made sure our stay ran smoothly from start to finish. Lovely bottle of wine and bunch of flowers to great us on our arrival, just 1 of the beautiful little touches added to ensure you have the most pleasant stay. Our little team will be back to stay at Mariners Rest again aslong as it stays available for holiday makers to stay.
A beautiful cottage, extremely well maintained and very clean on arrival. Well positioned for walking into Whitby, the few trains a day didnt cause an issue and it was good to see the old trains from the North York Moors Railway.
The cottage was the perfect location for exploring Whitby and the Yorkshire coast. It was very quiet even with the odd train going by. The house was comfortable and had pretty much everything needed for a relaxing stay. When we arrived it was clean, and the flowers, fresh bread and milk were a lovely touch. The property is light, warm and spacious, ideal for 3 people to have their own room. The little patio was delightful with a useful washing line and we enjoyed late afternoon drinks in the sun. We appreciated there being plenty of hooks for coats and backpacks, and a shoe rack, often holiday properties dont have anywhere to put wet coats or boots although the weather was great so no wet clothes!. Parking for two cars was also a real bonus in Whitby. All in all a great find.
Sharon
Have stayed here many times with family. The house is cosy but with plenty of room for all 8 of us. We can watch the trains go by, sometimes steam trains. The walk into Whitby is lined with boats in the harbour so theres plenty to see. Kitchen is fully equipped with lots of spare cupboard space and plenty of surfaces. We love staying here Thank you
The property was clean, comfortable, well equipped and in a good location. I wouldnt describe the property as luxurious but it was easy to live in and we had a very pleasant stay. The small issues we had, a full dustbin and changing the timing on the central heating, were dealt with pleasantly and promptly.
Lovely place.
Was a treat for myself my boys and there familys . Cannot praise enough was a stunning place and we all loved our stay there 10 out of 10 thank you for a wonderfull place
Joanna
We had the most brilliant stay at Mariner's Rest, so good that we rebooked for 2025 on our 2nd night there! We had everything we needed and the lovely extras made our welcome even nicer, so thankyou so much. Would definitely recommend this fab house, location and ample parking to anyone trying to find somewhere special to stay in Whitby.
I would thank him for being so accommodating we enjoyed our stay in his well equipped cottage. The cottage is well positioned for the town plus the steam engine passed by twice a day which a bonus. Parking for two cars was very useful.
Lovely, clean & spacious, house is very well equipped, and is in an excellent location. Parking for 2 cars was a bonus. Nice outdoor area & the balcony on the top floor is wonderful with beautiful views of the Abbey. Would definitely recommend
Rachel
What a wonderful holiday home! Great location and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed and the outdoor space was ideal for our little dog and the odd cup of coffee in the morning sunshine. The balcony on the master bedroom was super and a real treat to have a view of the abbey. The master bedroom would benefit from a big set of drawers and a dressing table, there is plenty of room for them. Surface space is lacking. Wonderfully quiet at night time and ample space to park two big cars off the road. The walk into Whitby is super easy and on the flat, it takes less than 5 mins! Will 100 be back as we have visited Whitby many times and really enjoyed being so close to everything.
Beautiful spacious property, very clean which provides all the usual holiday cottage facilities and more! Its well positioned, about a 10 min stroll uphill on way back from town on the station side of the bridge. Plus has x2 parking bays which is a real bonus. Had a lovely stay, although we all did get disturbed most nights by what sounded like a freight train going by in the early hours which always blew the whistle right outside the property and also be aware that in the daytime you get diesel fumes if windowsdoors left open as the train stops for a few minutes right outside the back of the property. Also if the showerbath on middle floor is being used you cant use the loft room shower at the same time as its either scalding hotfreezing cold someone else has previously mentioned this. A nice touch by the owner and much appreciated was the milk, etc left as we could have a nice cup of tea on arrival also she did let us in to the property a little early which was welcomed after a long 6 hour drive on a baking hot day! We recommend a trip to Robin Hoods Bay can catch local bus for 2. Also would highly recommend Bothams Tea Rooms in town, it has fantastic food and cakes and Tiffins opposite does a great English breakfast.
Norman
Lovely property, location excellent, parking for 2 cars, everything you could want. Would definitely recommend.
Upstairs shower 2nd floor didnt work regards temp being either cold or boiling. 1st floor shower did work so we all 8 used that
Kirsty
We absolutely loved our stay at Mariners Rest, from the minute we stepped into the house we loved it. With a welcome bottle of wine, beautiful uncut bread and pretty flowers we were made to feel very special instantly. The position of the house is perfect with views of the whole of Whitby from each floor. We really did not want to leave on our last day and we will be back again hopefully
Richard
Beds are very lumpy for the money we paid. Thought about booking again but price has almost doubled for the same time next year
Wonderful holiday home. clean and welcoming, very comfortable, beds great. short walk into Whitby, ideal location. lovely to see the steam trains passing by as well. would definitely stay here again
Absolutely loved the property, location was amazing, certainly suitable for 6 adults, but the deal clincher was the 2 car parking spaces as Whitby was really busy and we didnt need to use our vehicles.
Such a lovely house, in a lovely location. Kids loved watching the trains daily and the distance into town was perfect. Had a lovely week away
Jillian
Lovely cottage and fantastic location. Whitby town was lovely. Plenty of shops, cafes and pubs. And a great walk up to the abbey.
I've never found a cottge so clean, well done. It's a fantastic place in a perfect location and parking
Great location for Whitby and good parking, very important in Whitby. Worth checking all light bulbs more often.
This is probably the sixth time we have stayed here and will do again
